L. Bicksel,
MD
Overview
Dr. Bicksel was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and has lived
in Boston, Atlanta, and Philadelphia throughout his career. He
and his wife Lisa now reside in Northern Virginia, where she
is Chair of the Performing Arts Department at the Madeira School
in McLean. His areas of specialty include epilepsy, neuromuscular
disease, and neurobehavioral disorders.
Degrees and Certifications
Dr. Bicksel is board certified in Neurology by the American Academy
of Psychiatry and Neurology. He received a B.A. degree in psychology
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received
his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
His internship in medicine and residency in neurology were both
done at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
He then did a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology with emphasis
on epilepsy at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Bicksel is on the Quality Assurance Committee at Inova Fairfax
Hospital and the Medical Records Review Committee at Inova Alexandria
Hospital.
He has co-authored chapters in medical textbooks on Transient Ischemic
Attacks and Epilepsy. At Thomas Jefferson and Emory Universities
he was actively involved in teaching neurology to medical students
and will be doing so again when the practice begins its affiliation
with Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in the
fall of 2005. When he is not practicing neurology, Dr. Bicksel
enjoys classical music and the cultural opportunities available
in Washington, D.C.
